News

**IMPORTANT** 17th and 18th April - Computer update

Our clinical computer system is being upgraded on Wednesday 17th and Thursday 18th April.   This will result in a reduced number of appointments available, which will be for EMERGENCIES only as we will have limited access to patient records on these dates.    We thank you for your understanding.

EASTER PUBLIC HOLIDAY CLOSURES

The practice will be closed on Friday 29th March and Monday 1st April.   If you require a Doctor in the event of an emergency please dial 111.    We will re-open at 8am on Tuesday 2nd April

COVID and FLU VACS

Stay safe this winter! Get your COVID and flu vaccines at one of our drop-in clinics. You can visit https://www.nhslanarkshire.scot.nhs.uk/covid-19-vaccine-centres/ for your nearest location. If you have any questions, please contact 01698 687456 and not the practice

Christmas & New Year Closures

The practice will be closed on Monday 25th December, Tuesday 26th December, Monday 1st January and Tuesday 2nd January.   PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU HAVE AN ADEQUATE SUPPLY OF YOUR USUAL MEDICATION BEFORE THIS TIME.     Please call our prescription line on 01698 456622 to order.          In the event of an emergency during these closures please call NHS24 on 111.

New Patients

From 14th June 2023 the practice has made the decision to no longer accept patients already registered with a GP within the practice area e.g. Hamilton, Blantyre and High Blantyre.   NHS Lanarkshire fully support our decision.

If you have difficulty finding a new practice, you should contact the undernoted, who will allocate a new Doctor to you.

EASTER PUBLIC HOLIDAY Friday 7th April and Monday 10th April 2023 - the practice will be closed on these dates.  Please call 111 if you require medical advice during these times.

Additional Public Holiday  - The practice will be closed on Monday 19th September 2022

UPGRADE TO OUR TELEPHONE SYSTEM

All calls into the practice will now be placed in a queue rather than patients having to continually re-dial to get through.      However please note reaching the top of the call queue does not guarantee you an appointment that day (unless it is a medical emergency).        When our appointments are full for the day a telephone message will come on advising patients of this and to call back the next day or hold the line for reception to assist you.    We hope that these changes assist the flow of calls into the practice.

DEMAND FOR APPOINTMENTS

Demand for access to GPs across Lanarkshire is exceptional at present.  This practice is no different.  Please bear with us at this time and thanks for you patience.

The vast majority of patients are able to have their presenting clinical symptoms dealt with by a relevant healthcare professional over the phone.   However, from Monday 1st August 2022 FACE TO FACE appointments with the GP are available to book via reception.    Please contact reception for more information

You may not always need to see a GP to deal with your problem. Indeed, many problems may improve with time and simple remedies. Sore throats and coughs, for example, can be expected to last over a week, as long as you are not becoming more ill or breathless. There is good information available on the internet via NHS Inform https://www.nhsinform.scot/  or call 0800 224488 (8am – 10pm).

  • For common ailments such as coughs, colds, 'flu', sore throats, cold sores, nasal congestion, hay fever, back ache, athlete's foot, constipation, period pain, thrush, threadworms and warts or verrucae, your community pharmacy can give you advice. Your pharmacist can give you medicine on the NHS without you having to pay for it under the minor ailements scheme.
  • NHS 24 111 offer telephone health advice and an information service where you can talk confidentially to nurses or health information advisers
  • If you suffer from an exacerbation of a chronic disease i.e. an illness that cannot be cured but symptoms can be treated such as asthma, COPD or diabetes, the practice nurses can help you manage your symptoms.
  • Emergency contraception is available at most of the community pharmacies in Hamilton and Blantyre. The Practice Nurse and Practice Pharmacists can offer advice on stopping smoking or you can refer yourself directly for smoking cessation
  • The family child nurses at Udston Hospital can offer support and advice for new mothers and problems with babies and small children
  • For dental problems, you should see a dentist. If you are not registered with a dentist, contact our Community Primary Care Department  on 01236 707711

COMMUNITY PHARMACISTS operate a MINOR AILMENTS service for children, over 60s and patients in receipt of certain benefits. This covers advice and free treatment (if needed) for a variety of minor illnesses and complaints such as acne, athlete’s foot, backache, cold sores, constipation, cough, diarrhoea, earache, eczema and allergies, haemorrhoids (piles), hayfever, headache, head lice, indigestion, mouth ulcers, nasal congestion, pain, period pain, thrush, sore throat, threadworms, warts and verrucae.

FOR EYE PROBLEMS YOUR FIRST PORT OF CALL SHOULD BE THE OPTOMETRIST

An OPTOMETRIST. is the best person to assess urgent eye problems, check for eye disorders and treat eye conditions. They have the professional training and necessary equipment to assess most eye problems.

Many optometrists are part of the Lanarkshire Eye-health Network Scheme (LENS) including

    • The Optical Factory 01698 458005

    • As part of LENS they can offer an appointment and assessment service for any concerns you may have with the health of your eyes or eye injuries including: red eye, sore eye, deterioration of eyesight or any other disturbance of eyesight.

JOINT, MUSCLE OR BACK PAIN

You can phone 0800 917 9390 for JOINT, MUSCLE OR BACK problems to be given advice or to be referred to PHYSIOTHERAPIST without attending the surgery.
