Welcome to Comrie Medical Centre

Comrie SurgeryWe look after patients in a wide geographical area, including Balquhidder, Strathyre, Lochearnhead, St. Fillans and Crieff as well as the village of Comrie and the surrounding glens.

Due to capacity we no longer accept patients with a PH7 postcode.

The Practice is a long established one. Initially it was a single-handed practice based in a doctor’s house, but we now have 3 part-time GPs and a dedicated and enthusiastic team of practice and community staff working from a modern purpose-built medical centre. We are strongly committed to training and regularly take medical and nursing students on attachment.

disabilityDisabled access

The Medical Centre has suitable access for disabled patients and all the patient areas have wheelchair access. A wheelchair is also available, please ask at Reception.

TRAINING

GP SPECIALIST TRAINEES

stethescope_blue_book

Comrie Medical Centre is aiming to once again be a training practice for postgraduate doctors who have worked in hospitals and are gaining experience of General practice. GP Specialist Trainees are all fully qualified doctors and are an essential part of the team.

We believe that achieving and maintaining training practice status enhances the quality of the medical care that we provide at the practice. It also enables patients to see a wider range of clinicians whilst allowing the surgery to benefit from the fresh ideas and approaches brought by young enthusiastic doctors. You can of course still elect to see your chosen regular doctor but sometimes this may require you to plan your appointment.

If you are seeing a GP Specialist Trainee you can expect to receive the same quality of service you would receive from your own GP.

In order for the GP Specialist Trainees  to successfully complete their training they need to be assessed on their consulting skills. This is done by the appointed assessors viewing a video of their consultations and you may be asked for your permission to have your consultation recorded in this way. If you agree, you will need to give your written permission and you will be offered a consent form to sign.   The recording will be used for educational purposes only.

We hope you will welcome and encourage the GP Specialist Trainees to our practice. There is a national shortage of GP’s and this is a positive process for the GP Specialist Trainee, the practice, the NHS and most importantly the patents. We are sure you will agree this is a good thing!

MEDICAL STUDENTS

The practice is an accredited practice for training medical students. This means there may be medical students attached to the practice at various times (usually attached to the practice for 1–3 months during their 5th year at university). The doctors may have a medical student present during consultations at the surgery or on home visits.

We understand that patients may not wish to discuss sensitive subjects in the presence of a medical student. Therefore, you will be informed accordingly when you report to the reception desk. Please inform the receptionists if you prefer to see the doctor alone. You don’t have to give a reason and the doctor will understand.
