Blood Appointments
Due to staff sickness and the inability to recruit a qualified Phlebotomist, we have limited availability of blood appointments. If you are asked to have routine bloods, you will be offered an appointment up to 56 days in advance. We will always ensure that URGENT BLOODS requested by the GP are dealt with, within an appropriate timeframe, this might be by asking you to attend an alternative Healthcare settting.
Our Colleagues at Brynmawr Medical Centre have kindly offered to assist us whilst we are recruiting new staff. Therefore you might be asked to attend Brynmawr Medical Practice if we are unable to offer you an appointment in the timescale required.

Ensure you give your full name, DOB and address and list the items and strength of each medication you require and the name and Town of the chemist you would like to pick your medications up from. As before, please allow 72 hours (3 full working days) before collecting your prescription
Welcome to Blaina Medical Practice
Blaina Medical Practice has been in existence since 1955. We moved into a new purpose built surgery in September 1995 which was described as a “flag ship” surgery for the whole of Blaenau Gwent.
Future plans for the practice include increased involvement in education of GPs and future GPs.

Getting started
You can access NHS Wales services such as GP practice online services, NHS 111 Wales health advice and blood and organ donation using the App.
To access NHS Wales App services, you must:
- be registered with a GP practice in Wales
- have a fully verified NHS login
- be aged 16 or over

If you have a routine non urgent question that you would like advice for or requests to book non urgent appointments , you may also email the Practice's general email account. This service is currently available for repeat prescription requests and for all Non urgent medical queries. Please allow up to 48 hours to receive a response.
Text Messaging Service
We now send text appointment reminders and also use our Text service to contact you regarding other Health related information. By using this service you are also able to cancel your appointment by replying to a text
If you do not wish to receive these Texts then please inform a member of staff.
