Flu Vaccination clinic 2023

Our wonderful Dr Clarke decided to retire on 30.06.23.  I'm sure you would all like to join us in thanking her for all that she has done for the Ramsey Group Practice and for her patients.  Dr Clarke will be missed by us all but she deserves the happiest of retirements. We wish her lots of love and happiness to come.

Just a little update for you:

We are hearing of so many services across our NHS that are struggling, closing temporarily or closing permanently and I am sure you share our concerns.  The shortage of GP's both here and in the UK has been widely publicised.  Most practices on the Island have been trying to recruit for a while now and sadly it remains virtually impossible.  The Island is finding both retention and recruitment a problem and this is impacting greatly on the day to day running of primary and secondary care services.

That being said, the Ramsey Group Practice can only control what we can control and we promise to remain committed to that. We must protect our GP practices at all costs and we remain focused and driven to achieve just that.

We are constantly thinking of ways to change and adapt to the situation we are all facing and our main priority is you, our patients.  We have to change in order to protect our practice and we ask that you come on this journey with us, giving us your full support.  The GP Practice from years ago, the one we all knew and loved has sadly been forced to change. This is fact and it was something we couldn't control.

With this in mind, we are delighted that Dr Jane Travers has decided to join us as a salaried GP.  Some of you may have already seen Dr Travers whilst she has been doing some locum sessions for us.

We have also been successful in recruiting Amy our Physicians Associate.  Amy is Manx born, left to do her studies, went on to achieve her Masters and chose to come back to the Island to work, luckily with us. It will be a pleasure to help Amy develop and grow as a clinician.

We have yet more good news....we have Jeff joining us from tomorrow as an Advance Nurse Practitioner and Jamie joining us from the beginning of May as a Nurse Practitioner.  Most of you will know them both from the Minor Injuries Unit at Ramsey and District Cottage Hospital. We are so delighted to have them all join our already amazing team.

We ask that you help us protect our practice and embrace the changes within primary care.  Our extended role colleagues will help us to achieve this if you allow them.  If you are offered an appointment with any of our practitioners, please accept this.  They are all simply amazing and all great additions to our practice.

You may have also seen advertised that the Northern Wellbeing Partnership will be working closely with us, and us with them, in order to provide collaborative and holistic care to residents in the North of the Island.  They will be having a weekly counter service at Ramsey Town Hall every Monday(not bank holidays) starting tomorrow from 10-12 and 12.45-4pm.  This is a pilot scheme and we will do everything we can in order to make this work for our patients.  The already established third party sector services that they have is amazing, so please pop along and see them.

We ask that you keep the comments on this post positive and not  use it as a means to complain about the services.  We are doing all we can as a practice to maintain services for you all and we ask that you support us in that.  We are all working hard behind the scenes, most of which goes unnoticed, to ensure your health and wellbeing being remains our top priority.

From NHS Million:

"The NHS is not failing, it is succeeding in doing amazing things despite underfunding"

Take care everyone and thank you for your continued support Your RGP team.

It is again with great sadness that another of our GP Partners, Dr M O Tuathail has decided to move on to pastures new.  Dr M O Tuathail will continue with his role in the dermatology dept whilst he completes his training.  Dr O Tuathail has returned home to Ireland for a few weeks and will hopefully return to do some locum work for us.

Sadly the pressures placed upon GP Partnerships at present is taking its toll on many.

CQC report for Jurby

It is with great sadness that Dr Ciaran O'Halloran has left Ramsey Group Practice.  Dr O'Halloran wishes to spend more time with family in Ireland.  We are very pleased that he will be doing some locum sessions for us when he is on Island.  We wish him all the happiness he deserves.

Dr O'Halloran's patients will be looked after by the rest of the GP Partners.

We are actively trying to recruit new GP's as are most other surgeries on the Island.  It is proving quite problematic but we continue to try the best we can.

STREP A

Dr Helen Greg has recorded a video regarding Strep A.  This is now on Manx Care's socials, but thought we would copy here:

📲📲 For all of our patients that have a verified mobile phone number registered with us, you may receive a text message asking you to complete a health questionnaire. This will have a link called Floreys for you to click on and fill in. The answers to the questions will be coded directly into your medical record. For those who do not have a verified mobile phone number registered with us, we will contact you via either telephone or letter.

We just wanted to alert you that these are being sent out as rightly so, you should never open a link that is not familiar to you. 📲📲

Thank you for your continued support.

Your RGP team.

College urges patients not to contact their GP for Covid-19 holiday cancellation letters Publication date: 27 February 2020

The RCGP has heard reports of insurers and travel companies requesting GP letters in order for people to cancel holidays due to Covid-19, Professor Martin Marshall, Chair of the Royal College of GPs, said:

"Insurers and travel companies should be basing their decisions to offer refunds on advice from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and Public Health England, not letters from GPs. It is not a good use of GPs' time to be writing letters for patients who are not ill but have plans to travel - and GPs will always base their decisions on official advice.

"Patients will undoubtedly have good and sensible reasons for not wanting to travel to certain places because of Covid-19, but this is not the same as being unable to travel due to existing illness, and it should not become the GP's responsibility to give patients advice about where not to travel."

Please take the time to cancel your appointment if you can not attend.  We have on average 250 patients per month who do not attend their appointments or fail to answer their telephone when they have asked for the GP or Practice Nurse to call them back.  GP time is precious so please consider others if you can not attend.

Have you registered yet for 'patient access'?  https://www.patientaccess.com/ This service allows you to book routine GP appointments, order repeat prescriptions, view parts of your medical record such as immunisation history, allergies and lab results. Please bring proof of identity to the practice to be given your unique online access code. This service is open to all patients aged 16 & over.

Have we got your up to date contact details?  Please let us know as soon as anything changes.
