Welcome to Springfield Road Surgery

Welcome to our practice, which operates from two sites, Springfield Road Surgery (Main site) and Riverdale Surgery (Branch site). We hope this website will give you useful information of the services we offer.

Our patients care is our highest priority, and our website is here to make it easy for you to access the information you need.

You can access bespoke practice information such as opening hours, how to register and register to order repeat prescriptions online. There is also a wealth of information on our pages covering a wide range of health issues and links to relevant medical organisations.

We are currently experiencing a high volume of calls, please be assured that our staff our working as efficiently as possible. Thank you for understanding.

PRACTICE UPDATE

We do not offer pre-bookable routine GP appointments and instead there are other ways in which you can reach your GP and please be aware that the GP may request that you visit the practice after speaking to them on the phone.

All GP consultations will be telephone first, and a clinician may invite you to attend the surgery if required. GP Consultations can be requested from 8.30am each weekday morning and we will be unable to offer further appointments once a safe working capacity has been reached for that day. Please phone your nearest geographical surgery (e.g. Riverdale for people living in BT11 and the general south-westerly direction; and Springfield Road for BT12 and general north-easterly direction) this is to balance the workload on our staff. Our reception team are trained to ask you a number of questions, please answer these openly and honestly and respect that the GPs have trained and directed our staff to ask these questions and need the information to help you. Someone from the team will call you back throughout the day.

Emergency Triage Telephone Line
Our emergency triage telephone line is available for urgent medical queries only. Again, our team will ask you a number of questions as directed by our the GPs. Please answer openly, honestly and do not refuse as we need this information. If our call lists are full, and your query is not a medical emergency, our team will advise you to ring the next working day or may offer the services of other members of clinical staff such as Physiotherapists, Social Workers, Mental Health Practitioners or Pharmacists.

Who can my call be directed to?
Both Riverdale and Springfield Road Surgery's have access to Primary Care Multi-Disciplinary Teams (MDTs); these include First Contact Physiotherapists, GP Social Workers and Mental Health Practitioners. These members of the practice team provide enhance access to health and social care services within the Surgery. Patients can book appointments directly with these team members or you may be directed to their care from your GP.

We would ask to balance the workload and to let us deal with patients as promptly that you phone the surgery which is local to you. Staff will advise patients which surgery is closest at any appropriate time on calls.

SAMPLES
Both Riverdale and Springfield Road Surgery's, from Monday 7 October 2024, no longer accept samples handed into the Surgery reception after 1pm. This is due to the Royal Victoria Hospital Laboratory pick up schedule and the amount of samples that are unable to be picked up and therefore not processed within the appropriate time frame.

Please note some non-GMS services, such as letter requests from the GP may incur a fee.

Springfield Road and Riverdale Surgeries have a ZERO TOLERANCE abuse policy. Our staff are working exceptionally hard during this difficult period to provide a safe service. Abuse of any kind, either verbal or physical to our staff will not be tolerated by the practice.

PRIVATE REFERRALS & TREATMENT

An increasing number of patients are requesting private referrals due to the large waiting lists to be seen in NHS Secondary Care Services.

We feel it is important that patients understand the implications of seeking treatment outside of the NHS and Northern Ireland, and would ask you to follow this link which outlines care when this is sought privately.
